Week XI
This week was our final week to get everything done. We had a lot to finish this week, as we started production very late. Really we had planned to be done a few weeks ago, but we only started last week, and had only filmed three scenes (of about 10). Therefore, we have met up Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 1.00pm to 10.00pm for filming. Then I spent Friday editing, and then met with a group member on Sunday to finish editing. Although, we left production and post-production to the last-minute, we still had enough time, and only rushed a few scenes.
Filming this week has been difficult, because we half of the scenes we need are set in daytime, and the other half in the evening, so we have had to have been very organised with what shots to film when. Many of the shots set in the day have in fact been filmed whilst it is dark, however, these shots were filmed inside away from windows, so I don't think it notices. In addition, it was advisable to film the mopping scene in the evening because this was the only time the corridors were empty for us to film in.
The detention scene we had to film included everyone at once. This proved time consuming as I was playing two characters, and would constantly need to change costume. Multiple times we would start filming a shot and then realise I had move position, and would have to change character for the different angle, and re-shoot.
The dummy scene we shot went very successful, only taking us two takes. The first take was ruined by a scream by our camera lady, as she did not expect the dummy to be thrown so far by the janitor.
I think the use of the fake blood looked quite good, but did mean I had to get a bus home with a red face.
The editing was performed efficiently, as the group member and I had edited the last filming project together so needn't not waste time learning how to use the software. From the edited it was shocking just how much footage we had to scrap, either because actors were laughing or smiling, or we had missed out certain scenes. An example is a point in the script where I have a dialogue with another student (also me), but I forgot to change costume and respond to myself, so we had to remove that part of the dialogue.
Overall, I think we did quite a good job in our group. The film does look very amateurish, with dodgy camera work, and jumpy editing, but this was somewhat expected as non of us had ever did anything like this before. We were used to the editing because of our previous project (the news production), but we had to learn how to use the camera in an entirely new way. To conclude this blog, we just managed to complete our film in time in its completed form.
