Week VI

The start of this week my group and I met to script read together. We each took a character from the script and went through it together. This was very helpful, leading to us finding quite a few mistakes made within the script- such as spelling errors, and character name mix ups. After we read the script together we then started thinking about character development, because at this point students had no personality traits or description, unlike the janitor. Therefore, we began to think about the personality of each student within our story. This will prove to be very useful when it comes time for us to act. Later that day, I went home and made several corrections to the script. Towards the end of the week one of the group members and I went shopping in search of props. We had the script, and highlighted everything from that we needed, and additionally added costumes to the prop list. We managed to buy most of the items on the prop list- some examples being: rope, tool belt, fake b...

Week V

With a completed screenplay it was time to turn it into script form. This was my first time scripting, so I was learning how to do it as I went along. I learnt the correct way to indent, line spaces, font, specifying location, and writing dialogue. I completed the script this week, however, it can only be considered the first draft because the rest of my group have not seen it yet.

Week IV

Week 4 I sat down with a member of my group, and we began script writing. As we were writing the script was more like a screenplay, so we decided to write a screenplay first and then turn it into a script later. With this method, we are taking a more narrative approach to begin with, and then can consider the technical details later, which turned out to be much easier. We started writing the screenplay with a rough idea of the story, but we only had one character so far, and lacked any real depth. However, we knew the beginning and ending, and so were simply writing Act 2 (when considering the three act structure). We went through a number of ideas, spending a few hours getting the screenplay completed.

Week III

This week it was time to pitch our film ideas. My idea I came up with was a film called 'Janitor's Revenge', in this film a school caretaker tired of his job will be harassed by some students, tipping him over the edge. Later that day the janitor will give them all a detention, seeking his revenge, after school will attempt to murder these students, None of the students will survive, and the janitor will return to work the next day as if nothing happened. I pitched this idea to the lecture group, and then to the group I will be working with during the film project. My group I have now joined liked the idea, and we have decided we will use it for our project. Now with a group, and a pitched idea, it is time to get underway with pre-production.
